The Cooperative Food (March 2006 - Present)
I am currently a customer services assistant in the Cooperative food-store which is helping improve my communication skills daily as I am constantly working with people. This role has allowed me to effectively plan, prioritise and manage my own workload, making the best use of time and resources whilst maintaining a focus on detail and accuracy to produce work of exceptional quality. Responsibilities include the ordering of stock and dealing with the relating paperwork, assisting with audits, space planning and the management of money. I’m also the “face” of the front end of the shop by being responsible for both floor and till roles which has allowed me to build a strong rapport with both colleagues and customers alike. The role has shown my ability to be flexible and adapt to any new task with confidence and ease.
Carer (May 2011 – Present)
As a carer, it is my role to provide social and emotional support which is helping improve my communication and listening skills as I’m working with people on a daily basis. I am tasked with performing personal care tasks which is helping develop my interpersonal skills. As a carer I also provide personal assistance such as performing household and environmental maintenance which requires me to be very structured and organised at all times.
Life Communications (February 2009 - February 2010)
Working as an intern on a voluntary basis for a year in Life Communications, the Public Relations and marketing agency helped me gain a valuable insight into the UK and Irish media. This internship enabled me to plan, develop, strategise and implement high profile campaigns for clients such as PepsiCo and Specsavers which has improved not only my communication and creative skills but has further developed my critical, analytical and thinking skills.
Lagan College (February 2007)
An early work placement at Lagan College as a student teacher confirmed my ambition to work with people and helped me begin to develop my interpersonal skills. Working with all ages I observed a variety of situations whereby I was able to act, interact and communicate clearly and confidently.
The Stréat Cafe (June - October 2006)
I learnt basic catering skills, became a trained barista, was awarded a hygiene management certificate and was responsible for both floor and till roles which developed my interpersonal skills as I was continually dealing with colleagues and customers alike. This role demonstrates my ability to be flexible and adapt to any task.
Northern Ireland Court Service (June - August 2006)
I communicated at many levels from messengers up to directors & the management board on a daily basis which helped develop my interpersonal skills and demonstrated my adaptability. I was able to understand and follow complex processes with 100% accuracy as well as produce plans and schedules which are still being used today.
